Ireland has three main emergency services. An Garda Síochána are Ireland's national police force. They are commonly referred to as the Gardaí. There are also the Fire Service and Ambulance Service.
In case of emergency call 999 or 112. Emergency calls can be made free from any public or private telephone or mobile phone. You will be asked what service you want. Be sure you are clear on your location (and the location of the emergency) before you phone so you can correctly inform the operator. Public telephones generally have the phone number and address of the phone clearly displayed.
